Effective Parenting: Passion, Planning, Presence and Purpose

I’d like to share with you our new project. Melissa Joss, my partner in Sacred Essence, and I have been working together to offer you two days of focused and inspired concentration on effective parenting. I really don’t like the word “course” – it assumes that we are going to teach you something, which I believe is a bit arrogant when it comes to parenting. I’ve been a parent for eight years and I sure haven’t learned all there is to know, and there are likely to be parents at our weekend who have clocked up more years on their parenting time sheet than Melissa and I have.

We’ve got a lot to share though, all the same. The weekend we have planned for you is experiential. With our combined passion for great parenting, our backgrounds in early childhood teaching, arts therapy and personal development we have put together a weekend of inspired play, engaging discussion and focused thinking about family lives. This parenting weekend aims to help you feel a bit better nourished, and a whole lot more inspired to be creative about your parenting so that you can enjoy the journey with your whole family. This weekend will help you clarify your family vision and your role within it.  It will support you to make positive adjustments where you feel they are needed in your family life and encourage you to approach parenting with an attitude of lifelong learning.

In this parenting-focused weekend, participants will:

  •  gain the skills to discover, honour and support their own pathway as a family.
  • gain a model to support and ease everyday family experiences.
  • learn techniques to review and reflect upon parenting experiences while in-the-moment.
  • gain a support network of parents.

The whole purpose of this weekend is bring your attention to YOUR family, understand what drives YOUR family, the uniqueness of each person in YOUR family and to make some goals to inspire YOUR family together. It isn’t about us and what we know. It isn’t about advice or tricks or magic answers to the usual parenting dilemmas, it is about working out the best way for YOUR OWN FAMILY to be together effectively.

It’s partly why it has taken us so long to put this together :) We have had to examine and work with our own parenting during this process, not to mention that because we both have very young children, Melissa and I have had a hard time getting together regularly to work! But here it is at last.

Two days of experiential learning. What does this mean? It means that you will have the opportunity not just to talk about your parenting, to share ideas, stories and experiences with other parents, but you will have the opportunity to deeply and actively engage in developing some new habits in your parenting. These habits are yours to choose, and yours to practice, because each family is different. Melissa and I will be there to help facilitate the process, and we will also be there as future support after the weekend, in a series of sessions, to further explore some of the ideas and experiences that have arisen for the course participants.

We are thrilled to present this course in partnership with Silkwood School. We hope to see you there!
