There’s been a lot of bear hunting around here lately! That old favourite, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen is doing the rounds at story time again. I love it. I always have and I always will.
The two-and-a-half-year-old in our household is repeating the lines to the story to me by memory and it reminded me of this video we made a long time ago of me reading this story to our son. We read and sang to him every single day and night, and this was the first time that he had shown any interest in participating in a book or in any kind of rhythm to a song. He certainly couldn’t quote the story word for word as the little one in our house can now (at the same age). Now I now why! We didn’t know then that he had a hearing loss. A year and a half later we found out he has no hearing in one ear and partial hearing in the other. Well a lot of things made sense after that discovery!
And now, listening to this, I can hear the sounds he still has trouble speaking when he isn’t wearing his hearing aid. I am SO glad we read and sang to him so often. He really really needed as much beautiful language in his life as possible.
Enjoy this – it’s rather cute. My little guy is almost three years old here, and if you peek behind him you’ll notice the bump that is his sister, who appears five months later. I have no idea if this is how you sing the story – but I don’t think it matters … it’s how I’ve always enjoyed reading it 🙂
